Ingredients:

  • 500 grams boneless fish fillets (such as cod, haddock, or tilapia)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Breadcrumbs for coating
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:
    • Cut the boneless fish fillets into finger-sized strips.
  2. Marination:
    • In a bowl, combine ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and lemon juice.
    • Add the fish strips to this mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
    • Let it marinate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  3. Coating:
    • In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and cornflour.
    • Take each marinated fish strip, dip it into the flour mixture, then into the beaten egg, and finally roll it in breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
    • Place the coated fish strips on a plate and let them rest for about 10 minutes. This helps the coating adhere better.
  4. Frying:
    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully add the coated fish strips in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
    • Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy, which should take about 3-4 minutes per batch.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried fish fingers and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  5. Serving:
    • Serve the crispy finger fish hot with tartar sauce, ketchup, or a dip of your choice. Garnish with lemon wedges and fresh herbs if desired.

Tips:

  • You can double-coat the fish for an extra crispy texture by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Ensure the oil is at the right temperature; too hot, and the exterior will burn before the inside cooks; too cool, and the fish will absorb more oil, becoming greasy.
  • Adding herbs like parsley or cilantro to the breadcrumb mixture adds flavor.
